Today Just Happens - 6/27/25
Your daily-ish dose of NYT Games, politics, sports, news, and life in general.
Happy Friday everyone! I’m back from my short work trip (apologies for the missed newsletter updates) and ready to chat Wordle, Connections, and anything else that pops into my head by the time I get to that section of writing. Both NYT Games proved to be on the easier side for me, so let’s take a quick look at what happened.
NYT Wordle 1,469 3/6
⬛⬛🟩⬛⬛

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
Today’s word just jumped out at me despite a long previous day of travel. This has to be one of the more commonly-used words that Wordle has ever featured. Nothing out of the ordinary. Pretty bland, to be honest. Yes: those are clues I’m laying down for you. Can you pick them up and solve today’s puzzle?
NYT Connections
Puzzle #747
🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟦🟦🟦🟦
🟨🟨🟨🟨
🟪🟪🟪🟪
Today’s puzzle registered as a 2/5 difficulty according to Connections Bot, and I feel that is appropriate. Purple once again followed the fill-in-the-blank format it is often wont to do. Even still, the categories seemed straightforward and I’ll wager most of you will have no trouble today. Beware of the last names red herring, however!
What’s in the News
This isn’t necessarily a current events item, but one of the benefits of killing time in a hotel room is watching completely asinine things on Netflix. I also do this at home — let’s be honest — but it kind of hits different in a Hilton Garden Inn when the title of the show is “Trainwreck: Poop Cruise.”
For those unaware, Trainwreck is a documentary series on the streaming provider that chronicles newsworthy and outlandish headlines from the past. The Poop Cruise episode brings us back to the 2013 Carnival cruise ship that was left stranded in the Gulf of Mexico following an electrical fire. Four thousand passengers were left to fend for themselves when critical functions of the ship stopped entirely, including air conditioning, food prep, lighting, and flushable toilets… hence the episode name.
I vaguely remember this news story as it happened some twelve years ago and the series does a decent job detailing how large-scale media outlets initially ignored the situation before realizing this was a ratings godsend. I won’t spoil anything if you plan on watching the episode, but everyone “escapes” unscathed in the end.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to share your Games results!
